Careers Mind map:
My Chosen Career Pathway Sports Journalism -
Covering a range of sports:
(Formula1, Cricket, Football, Rugby (League and Union.)
My personal brand Identity- using Adobe Photoshop I birthed this logo using the stroke outline pen tool to create separation and a clear definition to the edge, also using tutorials to craft the cartoon effect I have looked to achieve over the face. I feel also I met the client brief using some time to get to grips with the Adobe software and then using the skills built over time to create a ' brand identity ' as per the requirements.
Strengths -
- As a Sports Journalist:
- I would utilise the resources available to meet assignment brief's.
- Work productively, managing my time & efficiently if working on a (sole) project.
- Work collaboratively if the criteria requires, a group contribution.
- Use my skill-set already gained to attribute new ideas and philosophies to the task.
Weaknesses -
- Breaking into the field may prove challenging, to overcome the initial daunting task, I could display determination for success.
- Becoming known within the industry? First impressions, count for everything, so appearing punctual, approachable when given an assignment.
- Time management must be a priority when submitting assignments with several components to allocate the right time to.
Opportunities - Industries specialising in my field are situated northerly, but more likely to be found in your bigger cities like Leeds, Newcastle or Manchester. Although chances to get a foot in the door are available in the college perimeter with the close proximity to the Middlesbrough FC ground, Riverside Stadium. The MFC Foundation, a charity running in unison with the club were able to grant us some access in the press room in 2022. This gave us a feel of exactly what a potential career in Sports Journalism, could be like and made me aspire to become a journalist more.
Threats - Market competitors would be a wary threat, combating this I must create a ' USP ' (Unique Selling Point) that distinguishes my work from the fellow market.
The tight budget constraint could also restrict my opportunity to create anything top-of-the-range. In the knowledge of this I am able to plan ahead and organise any expenditure, rather than spending aimlessly.
Job Roles - Within the creative industry, these could vary from the bottom of the ladder, holding a job as a runner or progressively going up the hierarchy, a sound engineer, camera operator or pick of the bunch an assistant director shadowing the director. Each of these serve a purpose with view to progression, once the next skill is taught.
Short-term: Going into next year, my application is accepted and I enrol into the further study on Sports Journalism.
Medium-term: 3-5 years is the duration, I would class as ' medium ' and for the best possible progression, my ambition is to of flourished through my university education, complimenting the learning I have received along the journey, to better my future self.
Long-term: 10+ years time; I would like to imagine, my University degree had given me the armoury to emerge into the bustling industry as a ' novice ' making a path of progression for myself, with a view to clambering the food-chain as it were.
The field of study I am looking to join offers a wide variety of choices;
- University Further Study
- Apprenticeships
- Cross-Transferrable Skills
- Work Placements During Academic Courses
My target audience is those interested in the topics of conversation, they're purposely chosen to conflict opinion and spark a two or several-person debate. Age specifically I would go with 14+, with any demographic anomaly groups apply.
My intentions to make it through a congested market, the key point is sell-ability being your own identity and not dragged along or heavily influenced by others. I believe my ideas can benefit from this by taking aboard feedback and listening then making the necessary changes to create the best version I possibly can. Personality plays an important role too which I believe I have in abundance, reading the room is how I would summarise and being adaptable to the potential of an ever-changing situation. Having that grit to tackle whatever challenges faced essentially.
A review of other material already available:
Currently user interfaces in my particular field for example the insert on the left, predominantly focus there brand identities around the colour composition (club colours) this gives them a uniqueness, specific to them rather than just being a ' Football Club '
the drop-down options give access to shortcuts, finding sections quicker than previously certainly an advance made in the modern age. The inclusion of hyperlink(s), means access to twin-material can be gained instantly. Therefore, the example I have chosen showcases my own ambition and inspiration to create in the future for my own portfolio.
